It's Snowing, come take a look! (with script)

Imperial Guard Soldier stationed on Dendrus VII

With Christmas only a few hour away I thought I would add some snow to the site. Realm of Warhammer 40k would like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a prosperous new year.

There are lotes of new and interesting things planed for the start of 2014 and will continue throughout the year. I would like to thank everyone who has visited the site and all those who have contributed with comments and emails.

For those boggers out there that would like to add their on snow to their blog, just copy and paste the script below into an HTML/JavaScript Gadget and the jobs done.

Papercraft: Thunderbolt Fighter

Papercraft Thunderbolt
Papercraft Imperial Thunderbolt Fighter

Something a little different in this post. I came across a template for the Forge World Imperial Navy Thunderbolt Fighter and it has been sitting in my downloads folder staring at me for a while. So with money very tight at the moment with Christmas and increasing energy bills in the UK, I thought I would take a break from the normal Warhammer 40k bits and have a go at this papercraft model.

Several things have come of this. 1 - It is really fun, don't knock it until you have tried it. 2 - It only take a few nights for a simple model like the Thunderbolt. 3 - it's FREE, apart from knife blades, Glue and Paper. 4 - Yes I have caught the bug and want to do more. So below are some more pictures of my first papercraft model and also a little explanation of why I want to do more of them and why you should have a go too.

Imperial Enforcer & Cyber Mastiff

Imperial Enforcer

This is an awesome model and also a member of my Xenos Inquisitors retinue. I managed to get hold of this Forge World event only figure from ebay at a very reasonable price. Unlike my Inquisitor, I wanted to keep the original model in tack as much a possible, but I did want to change it slightly. So here is the Enforcer and below is the making of the base and his Cyber Mastiff companion.

In game he will count as an acolyte with Boltgun, Las pistol (when added) and Carapace armour with melta bombs. The Cyber Mastiff will count as an arco-flagellant. Not sure if I want to add a scope to the Boltgun or not? may look to much.

Ordo Xenos Inquisitor: Conversion Part VI

Ordo Xenos Inquisitor Conversion

Modelling wise, My Inquisitor is almost complete, I have added shoulder guards to him, as his is dressed in his carapace armour, so I figured he could do with the extra protection. I have also completed the sword scabbard on his back

I am still in need of a name for him, so please, please leave suggestions in the comments section. This will probably be the last post of him before he is painted as that will be the next stage.

Ordo Xenos Inquisitor: Conversion Part V

Ordo Xenos Inquisitor Conversion

After some time out (due to real life) I have finally got stuck back into my Inquisitor conversion. So much has happened since I first started this, mainly the release of Codex Inquisition and my own changes in taste. I have had a vision for two types of Inquisitor for some time now. An Ordo Malleus Inquisitor with a Storm Trooper type retinue, and this Ordo Xenos Inquisitor with a specific team of throne agents. Both Inquisitors having various supporting transports mainly a Valkyrie though.

With the release of the new Codex Inquisition, I can actually field these units legally in a game which is a total bonus as I never thought I would be able to. I almost feel like GW stole my thoughts lol. And if your reading GW, we could really do with a 28mm Inquisitor Skirmish game!

Anyway, the Xenos Inquisitor is coming along nicely and I will be delving into him and his retinue with renewed gusto, Below is the progress so far. Keep an eye out for one of his Throne Agents as well. Elexia Saphyre will be infiltrating soon.

1 Year Later

1 Year Later

Today Ream of Warhammer 40k celebrates one year of blogging. I thought I would take a look at the last year and re-link some of the best posts the site has had and some of my favourites.

If there is anything I have learnt over the past year, it is that blogging is hard work and can get quite involved. I have got a lot of plans for the next year and you should see some great things coming as well as more free stuff to download.

Anyway enough rambling on, below are some of the best post from the last year. Please enjoy and share.

Codex Inquisition: Cover Art

Codex Inquisition

Black Library have just released the cover art for the new Codex Inquisition that is being released digitally next month.

I have to say I am a tad excited over this and I am also hoping that it will be release in paperback shorty after. which brings me to a little concern, will this be released in paperback and how long will I have to wait. Like countless gamers out there, I do not have the ability to get a digital version, neither would I get one until a paperback is release anyway.

I am hoping that the condense will be revealed over the coming weeks via Black Library and those in possession of a copy when it comes out will be able to shed some light, Until then, one will have to wait.

What are your thoughts on this and what do you think this tomb will have in store for the Inquisition?

Worcester War II

Worcester War II
2014

I am a little excited to share this with you all today and I am now looking forward to 2014. 'CODE40k' are proud to announce there second Warhammer 40k event, Worcester War II.

The event will be held on Saturday 8th February 2014 and I for one will be attending.

Earlier this year they held their first ever event and it was a great success, my brother even came second (damn you). Well this time it is going to be bigger a better, and if you love Warhammer 40k then you will love this.

So head over to 'CODE40k' for more information and download the event pack.

Hope to see some of you there.

Warlord Orders: Free Download for Warhammer 40k

Warlord Orders: Warhammer 40k Playing Aide

Today I give you something a little different, a playing aide. Now I don't know about anyone else, but with all the rules out there for 6th edition Warhammer 40k and all the army specific rules for Codices and Supplements, I am finding it a little hard to remember them all, especially mid game and this can defiantly cause problems during a tournament if you forget that all important rule.

So to combat this little issue I have and to help keep my mind on the game in hand, I have created an A4 playing aide to help guide me through the Pre game set-up and Deployment. And then reminders about specific rules I have for my army and when to carry these out. I have found this very helpful and I no longer need to refer to the Big rulebook (I do not own the little one) or my Codex / Supplement, flicking from page to page. I have it all listed in one place.

You will find the FREE Warlord Orders PDF & Word Doc at the bottom of this post.

Space Marine Fire Raptor Gunship: Rules

Space Marine Fire Raptor Gunship

'Forge World' have just released the experimental rules to the new Space Marine Flyer. This is an awesome model with some pretty cool rules that can be downloaded from Forge World 'Here'. More pics of this new vehicle below. Enjoy.

Tau Empire: Riptide v Crisis Battlesuit Team

Riptide
v
Crisis Team
So I have this little dilemma, Lots of people are saying that I should include a Riptide in my Tau army, most people saying to take them because they are awesome. But here is my problem. I would rather take a loaded unit of Crisis Battlesuit’s instead, as I think it would be more beneficial in game.

So I am putting this out there for a little help with making my decision. Below is my list of pros and cons for both unit types, after reading them, please feel free to comment with your own views and indeed if you think I have it all wrong or not. Try to avoid (I would give them these weapons instead) as this is the options I would take and the comparison in hand.

Necrons: Triarch Stalker

 Necron Triarch Stalker

Next post of my Necron's is the Stalker, another underestimated unit. The Triarch Stalker is a walker that if used correctly can greatly boost your army. It has the living Armour to negate shaken and stunned results, and Quantum Shielding to make it as armoured as a Leman Russ Tank. It only has one weapon and I like to use the heat ray. Can be fired like a two shot Melta or like a flamer, but the best bit is as long as you hit with the Stalker the unit becomes marked and all other shooting at that unit becomes twin linked.

Tau Battlesuit Support Systems: Can you name them

Tau Empire XV88 Broadside Battlesuit

I have just purchased a new Broadside Battlesuit, and upon starting the build came across a little problem that I am hoping to get a little help with. As most gamers know, Tau Battlesuits come with a varying amount of support / Signature systems that can be taken as upgrades. The kit above comes with said upgrades on the sprue, (awesome) but does not tell you which ones are which (Not so awesome).

Below is a picture of the support / Signature systems that come on the sprue and I would love for someone out there to tell me what number corresponds to which item in the Tau Codex, so I can represent the correct item on the model.

Ordo Xenos Inquisitor: Conversion Part IV

Ordo Xenos Inquisitor Conversion

Progress has been made again on my Inquisitor conversion, I had my ebay delivery of the Sword and have now been able to get stuck in. Due to gluing of the hand I have not completed as much as I would of liked, but it is coming together. Also I have nearly completed the new base for my retinues Cyber Mastiff.

Please follow these links for 'Part I', 'Part II' and 'Part III' if you have not already seen them.

Ordo Xenos Inquisitor: Conversion Part III

Ordo Xenos Inquisitor Conversion

Part III of this conversion has seen further advancements on the Inquisitor, including the arms and base. The original vision of the model is starting to come together now and with the addition of the base, I think is looking pretty good.

Here are the links to 'Part I' and 'Part II' if you have not already had a look at them. The Model is now definitely looking more Inquisitorial.

Ordo Xenos Inquisitor: Conversion Part II

Ordo Xenos Inquisitor Conversion

With the butchery of the Eldar model found here in 'Part I', it was now time to move on and start adding Green Stuff. I will note here, that I have before used green stuff to fill in gaps and the odd embellishment on a model. This was way out of my comfort zone and I was very nervous to start it. But after hours of so called sculpting, I was really happy with the result so far.

I have tried as much as possible to keep my initial vision in tact and stick to my concept art, I found the image I had of the final product kept me from just going off on one and changing my idea!

Ordo Xenos Inquisitor: Conversion Part I

Ordo Xenos Inquisitor Conversion

This all started a while ago, when I was looking for the right Inquisitor model for my Grey Knight army. I could not find what I wanted specifically, so I opted for the Power armoured model from Games Workshop found 'Here'.

I then thought about creating my own Inquisitor, modelling him / her from scratch and also an accompanying retinue. Inspired by the recent White Dwarf articles and the whole Blanchitsui theme, I started to trawl through the internet trying to find what I was after. I gave myself one rule though, to only use Games Workshop models, but I could use any amount of Green stuff, Plasticard extra I wanted. The theory is, if I ever go to an official GW event, I would still be able to use my completed Inquisitor and Retinue.

Book Review: Warriors of Ultramar

Warriors of Ultramar

This is book two in Graham McNeill's first Ultramarines Omnibus, and it is fantastic. I am really liking the authors writing style and cannot put his books down. This one follows on from book one 'Nightbringer', but you do not need to read that first to enjoy this novel.

For any Space Marine / Tyranid / Battlefleet Gothic lover, I suggest you read it and all his other books for that matter, anyway, please take a look at my review below and go read it.

Forge World Stormblade Arkurain Pattern Rules

Stormblade Arkurain Pattern

Forge world have just released updated rules for the Stormblade Arkurain Pattern Super Heavy Tank, the can be found 'Here' in PDF format free to download.

Many Forge Worlds build their own variants of the STC Shadowsword design, armed with different weapons. It is believed the Stormblade, mounting a massive Plasma Blastgun to replace the Shadowsword’s Volcano cannon, was first constructed on Ryza, where the ancient art of plasma weaponry construction are still practiced, and elevated to masterpieces of Imperial technology. As well as its main weapon the Stormblade is also armed with turret mounted lascannons and sponson mounted heavy bolters, making it a fearsome opponent.

The Arkurian-pattern hull is perhaps the most common type of super-heavy hull across the many Forge Worlds capable of producing such technological marvels, although more conservative Priests of the Machine Cult view the rarer Mars-pattern hull as superior.

The Super Heavy Tank  can be purchased from Forge World 'Here'.

For more free stuff visits the 'Downloads' page.

Special Mission II: Fighting Withdrawal

Special Mission II: Fighting Withdrawal

Here is Realm of Warhammer 40k's second Special Mission. During play testing this mission, we found it usually brings total carnage across the battlefield. Unless you agree beforehand on which party you are paying, you will have to build an army that can move quickly but also deliver a hard punch, for until the dice are rolled, you wont know which job you will doing, attacking or withdrawing. Generally, both players will end up with few models left on the board. For best results, download the PDF file from the link below and print for better quality.

Legion Sicaran Battle Tank

Legion Sicaran Battle Tank

For those that may not have yet seen, this is one awesome Battle Tank from 'Forge World'.

One of the most advanced armoured units in the arsenal of the Great Crusade, the Sicaran Battle Tank was the exclusive province of the Space Marine Legions. The Sicaran utilises component technologies from various STC patterns to create a high-speed ‘destroyer’ tank to complement the more commonplace Predator and Land Raider designs.

The primary armament of the main Sicaran variant is the sophisticated Herakles pattern accelerator autocannon, a superior rapid-firing and highly accurate weapon. It fires shells at far higher velocities than a standard autocannon, enabling it to successfully track and engage swift moving targets and pinpoint vulnerabilities in enemy armour with lethal precision.

Special Mission I: Bird Down

Special Mission I: Bird Down

We have all played the normal Eternal War missions found in the main Warhammer 40,000k rulebook, and with 6th edition these are still quite varied. But I wanted to mix things up a little, so with the help of my brother, we have come up with a few different missions for you all to play. For best results, download the PDF file from the link below and print for better quality.

Nemesis Dreadknight: Brother Diego

Grey Knight Nemesis Dreadknight: Brother Diego

Introducing, Brother Diego, my second Nemesis Dreadknight for my 4th Brotherhood Grey Knight army. I have spent quite a bit of time on this model and have done a lot of not so much converting but I would say altering. Mainly the repositioning of the left leg, both the Dreadknight and Pilot, but also the clever addition of magnets to enable a full weapon swaps if required.

Those of you that may not have noticed, this Dreadknight has also been given a Halberd close combat weapon as opposed to a Greatsword or Daemon Hammer. This was really fun to make and I will explain how I did it later. I have also been learning to use my camera a little more efficiently, so these photos are slightly different from the others on the blog and I hope they are more pleasing to the eye. Anyway more photos below.

Book Review: Legion

Legion

Getting back the the Horus Heresy novels, I last read Legion. This takes place two years or so before the Heresy starts and dips into the Alpha Legion and an Imperial Guard force. You really get to understand the secretive nature of the Alpha Legion and you learn a little about the Primarch too.

There are lots of twists and turn in this book and yet another great piece or work by Dan Abnett. This really helps tie in the events that happen during the drop site massacre in Istvaan V.

Necrons: Imotekh & Royal Court.

Imotekh the Storm Lord & Royal Court

Welcome to the first post of my Necron Army. In case you were wondering I'm not Dale this is Mark his Brother; he has asked me to contribute to the blog so I thought I'd start with my Necron's even though Blood Angels are my main army.

I've been gaming now for 25ish years and I don't know about you, but apart from tournament play, I think I've met maybe 1% of gamers with fully completed army's. In all this time "I" personally have never played with one, so that was the driving force behind this army. It also didn't see the light of day until it was complete to get the "tadaaa" when I took it along to the gaming club.

Worcester War 2013: The Results

Worcester War 2013 - Grey Knight Army - 1500pts

Well Saturday 29th June 2013 was a fun day! Myself, my brother and two friends went to Worcester War 2013 organised by 'Code 40k'. It was a very fun and interesting day even though I didn't win the whole event, I had a great time and met some great people. As you can probably guess by the above picture, I played my Grey Knight army, 1500 points worth.

I don't have any bad news as I had a great time and Won one of my games, which was my goal for the event. I do have two pieces of good news though, the first being I won one of my games (yay me), the second, I didn't come last ha ha.

Any-ways, I was concentrating so much on the games, that I didn't take any photos of the matches, I can roughly remember how they went though, so below if a brief description about the three games I had for anyone interested.

Worcester War 2013: Tournament

Worcester War 2013

In a little over one week, I will be attending my first ever organised event at Worcester War 2013. This is being held in Worcester, England and arrange by the guys over at 'Code 40k', check out their blog for some great content. It is a single day event consisting of three 1500pt games and I will be attending with my brother and two friends from my local gaming club 'Cheltenham Warchiefs'.

I have been practising with my chosen army over the last month or so, and have finalised the list I am going to take. Now it is by far a 'Tournament Winning List', I wanted to play with the models I like and have a fun game, rather than going for the win. Obviously I will be playing to win at leased one game, but for me the whole experience and atmosphere is what I will be there for.

However, I don't want to just be walked over so this post is to basically get some advice from as many people as possible on playing at a tournament environment  Below are a few worries that I have and a few questions as well. If anyone would like to comment, please feel free!

Book Review: Savage Scars

Savage Scars

So taking a break from the Horus Heresy novels I have started to read, I decided on reading Savage Scars by Andy Hoare. This book evolves around Space Marines, The Imperial Guard and the Tau Empire. But even better is that it focuses on Dal'yth Prime which coincides with my 4th Hunter Cadre from the Dal'yth Sept. So for me it was a must read.

This novel took me a little longer to read that normal because I have been busy painting in the evenings, but my review of this fantastic read should give you an insight into why I crammed every other spare moment into reading it.

In this post I will be sharing a friends Raven Guard army, this is the first of quite a few posts on his beloved Raven Guard, each post will share another of his fantastic units. The first being this Assault Squad. I thought I would do a short interview with him to find out more behind his army and thoughts.

Universal Vehicle Damage Markers Repost

Universal Vehicle Damage Markers

With these markers being so popular with other gamers, I thought I would repost the free downloads for more to enjoy. If other game system players would like different versions of these markers, please feel free to contact me for requests.

I will soon be creating apocalypse markers and vehicle destroyed templates for most vehicles that are free to download and use as these are an essential tool that is need for our game!.

With the 6th Edition Resin dice slowly becoming unavailable from Games Workshop and the fact that I personally don't like those dice anyway, I decided to make my own Vehicle Markers. For a long time all I ever used was spare dice, but I still had to keep looking at the rule book to see what the number represented and they got mixed up a few times. I also got hold of some different markers that other people created and used them for a while, but I wanted to create my own, so I did.

At the end of this post you will find a link to download these markers as PDF's along with some simple instructions to get a really effective end product.

Book Review: Descent of Angels

Descent of Angels

Here is my first book review on Realm of Warhammer 40k. I endeavour to review every Warhammer 40k novel I have read in the hope it might inspire others to pick up a book a read. I am not a professional critic so these are going to be my own opinions.

Anyway, the first book I am going to review is the one I have just finished reading. Descent of Angels by Mitchel Scanion. Book VI of the Horus Heresy.

Grey Knight Razorback II

 Grey Knight Razorback II

Here is one of my Grey Knight Dedicated Transports. It comes in very cheap for what you get points wise and fills a gap missing in a Grey Knight army of heavy weapon firepower. I won't rattle on about it's profile and stuff. I chose to include it in my army for the above reason and it also gets my Strike Squad into position a lot quicker without deep striking in. Anyway, more photos below.

Warhound Titan (part III)

Construction Coming Together

So here is Part III of my Warhound Titan. Here are the links to 'Part I' and 'Part II' if you have not already read them. In this post, I will go through the construction of the Head and Torso with the difficulties faced and also my enjoyment of magnetization. The whole model has started to come together and is looking quite impressive. I will apologise in advance for the photo quality as these were taken on my phone, but I will be taken some top notch photos of the whole Titan when it is completed. Enjoy...

Universal Objective Markers

Universal Objective Markers

Being as most games are now objective based, I wanted to create some objective markers. This is simply because I don't like the Games Workshop dice or want to buy any and I believe the gaming table looks better with modelled objectives on rather than a dice carrying servo skull. I do want to make some themed objective markers to go with specific armies, but I have not yet got around to getting the materials that I require. So here are the Universal Objective Markers with a little tutorial on how I created them.

The Lord Inquisitor

Today I thought I would share a trailer with you all, for an up and coming short animated film 'The Lord Inquisitor'. Today I would like to have another shout out for my local wargaming club, Cheltenham Warchiefs! Over the last six months there has been a lot more people attending and the atmosphere is fantastic. 'Click Here' to head on over to the website for even more info!

Not only is Warhammer 40,000 played by also a lot of other game systems. Warhammer Fantasy Battle, War machine, Malifaux, Necromunda, Blood Bowl, Flames of War and a whole bunch more.

The Ostrius System

Ultima Segmentum - The Ostrius System

The Ostrius system comprises of a single star, seven planets and a worm hole, located in the Galactic North of Ultima Segmentum on the Eastern Fringe. The system was brought under Imperial Compliance during the Great Crusade and was noted for its exceptional ship building. When the Horus Heresy broke out, the system sided with the loyalists and created a huge armada of ships. But terrible Warp storms surrounded the entire system halting communication and travel for over 200 years, no doubt a design of the Ruinous Powers. When the storms finally abated, the system made contact with the Imperium and the Armada dispersed across the galaxy to Imperial forces. In the ten thousand years since the loss of the Emperor, the Ostrius system has been wrought with wars and unrest and with the new arrival of the Nexus Worm Hole, a new threat approaches in the 41st Millennium.

Red Scorpions Stormtalon Gunship

Red Scorpions Stormtalon Gunship

I love this model, it was fun to build and I really enjoyed painting it too. My chosen colour scheme is in the livery of the Red Scorpions Space Marine Chapter. Apart from the fact I love the name, colours, army composition and the fluff that goes with it, I am also a Scorpio birth sign, so it just kind of all fell into place. This is my first completed Red Scorpions model and I have a few more units built and ready to be painted in the very near future.

Tau Hammerhead Gunship

Tau Hammerhead Gunship

The Hammerhead Gunship with Railgun. Be afraid, be very afraid! I love fielding this tank, even though every time I use it I constantly roll 1's to hit with it's single shot, I still take it in my army due to the threatening persona it has on the battlefield. Armed with one of the most powerful weapons in the 40k universe, what's not to love.

Aegis Defence Line and Quad Gun

Aegis Defence Line and Quad Gun

Here is my first completed Fortification, the Aegis Defence Line. The Defence Line offers you guaranteed terrain to set up behind, as well as the option of comms or gun emplacement. I have only ever used the Quad Gun with the Aegis Defence line as I find I miss quite a bit with powerful single shot weapons such as the Icarus Lascannon. Being able to set up a 28" long barrier in your deployment zone is very good for keeping those home based objectives secure.

Grey Knight Strike Squad I

Grey Knight Strike Squad I of the 4th Brotherhood

This was the first Grey Knight Strike Squad I built. Again they have a standard load out with the addition of a Psycannon for protection against armour. Keeping these guys cheap in points was the main idea and now serve as my home objective keepers. Positioned behind cover correctly gives them a high survival rate and being Grey Knight are a deterrent in themselves for any assaulting unit.

I painting the unit up last year using the old paints and so I imagine they will differ slightly in colour to newer models. Being as they were painted so long ago they will not contribute to my painting points for this year. They do have a Razorback to accompany the squad, but will only be deployed in higher point games.

Grey Knights - 4th Brotherhood - Strike Force Nexus

Grey Knights - 4th Brotherhood - Strike Force Nexus

We are the hammer; I am the right hand of the Emperor, the instrument of His will, the gauntlet about His fist, the tip of His spear, the edge of His sword.

Dark times are closing on the Imperium. The Ruinous Powers are increasing their presence in the material realm, disgorging from the Warp at every chance and sowing the seeds of Chaos. The Imperium's response to this great threat, are the Grey Knights of Titan, designated Chapter 666 and created in utmost secrecy with the purist of geneseed derived from the Emperor Himself during the Horus Heresy for one purpose. The defence of mankind from the archenemy! They are the Emperors chosen and stand apart in the never ending war against evil.
